Did you know that during Hurricane Katrina the Internet was the only means of communication that was still to some degree operational. Internet access was possible even though a hurricane hit New Orleans. Everything else stopped working including phones. The reason why the Internet was still working in some locations is that you cannot simply switch the Internet off. There is no central point; instead, the Internet makes use of various technologies including cable TV, wireless modems, satellites, WiFi, and G connections. As you can see, because there are so many ways to connect to the Internet, it may be possible to have Internet connectivity in some areas even if a disaster happens.
